Hubble's Variable Nebula

What IS  Right With America? Our technological advances! On January 26, 1949, The 200 inch Hale Telescope was first used at the Palomar Observatory under the direction of Edwin Hubble. It was the largest aperture optical telescope until BTA-6 was first used in 1976. Construction on the telescope, and the observatory, were completed after 21 years, and were funded by a 6 million dollar grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. The Hale Telescope was first used to photograph Hubble’s Variable Nebula (which is shown in this picture).
